WHAT A CROC?

Did you know that a mamma Crocodile which can weigh as much as 2600 pounds and be up to 23 feet long, carries her new-born babies in her mouth from a riverside nest to the water?  Fortunately for the babies, instinct prevents the mother from closing her jaws which have the strongest bite of any animal in the world (up to 5000 pounds per square inch), so her babies are safe from her large, sharp teeth.  Talk about protection!!

It reminded me of my own miracle of protection.  I rode a Vespa motor scooter to the University of Washington every day, rain or shine.  One rainy day, I came over the top of a hill and noticed a man driving a car coming toward me from the opposite direction.  He had his head turned sidewise looking for an address.  A motor scooter is not very stable due to its small wheels and the road was wet and slippery.  I said to myself, ‘please look in my direction and don’t turn in front of me.’  Guess what.  He did.

I almost missed the rear fender of his car and just before impact, I blanked out.  I ended up on the sidewalk unharmed!!!  The motor scooter slid under a pick-up truck.  Twenty-four hours later I asked myself how I could have ended up on the sidewalk.  It was a miracle!

Did an Angel open his ‘mouth’ and gently remove me from my motor scooter and set me down on the side walk?  On a par with the Crocodile?

This miracle convinced me that there was indeed a God and He loved me enough to protect me from harm.  The why is still a mystery.  I later discovered two scriptures that may contain the answer.

‘He will command his angels concerning you to guard you in all your ways; they will lift you up in their hands, so that you will not strike your foot against a stone.’ Psalm 91:11-12.

And, ‘are not all angels ministering spirits sent to serve those who will inherit salvation?’ Hebrews 1:14

He knew that one day, I would choose Him.

I chose Him a year later, September 21, 1971. My spiritual birthday. The day I was born AGAIN!

‘Ask the beasts and they will teach you’.  Teach you the beautiful truth that the omniscient (all knowing), omnipresent (everywhere at once) and omnipotent (all powerful) God who created the universe, can also be as gentle as a mamma crocodile!

A crocodile’s protection of its babies is pure instinct.  Your protection comes as a matter of choice.  God said, ‘This day I call the heavens and the earth as witnesses against you that I have set before you life and death, blessings and curses. Now choose life, so that you and your children may live (be protected). Deuteronomy 30:19

CHOOSE WISELY!  Will you choose life and its blessings?  Jesus said, ‘I came that you may have life and that you may have it more abundantly.’ John 10:10 NKJV. Choose Him, His life,  His protection!  ‘That you and your children may live!’

  1. That’s amazing! I didn’t know the mama croc’s did that! Also, thank God for his angels that day! I remember you first telling me that story and how amazing it was that you ended up on the sidewalk and not under the truck. I tell my friends this story often! ❤️😊

  2. Such a great analogy! Whether it’s ‘under His wing”, “hidden in the cleft of the rock” or in the mouth of a whale, God makes His presence and provision known. Good one!
