Ever heard of a ‘homing pigeon’?  It’s another of God’s wonders. This simple, rather ordinary looking bird can find its way back to its ‘home’ or nest from extremely long distances.  Believe it or not, these pigeons can fly at incredibly high speeds, averaging 60 miles per hour over a moderate 600 miles.  A top racing pigeon can reach speeds of 100 miles per hour over the same distance!  Yes, I said Racing Pigeons.  Some find this to be a great sport!

Supposedly, one racing pigeon sold for $400,000.  Wow, someone takes the sport very seriously!

You can take the pigeon in any direction away from its nest and its ‘homing’ instinct will bring it back home, flying as many as 700 miles in one day!  One documented flight from Africa to its home in England took 55 days and covered 7000 miles.  Incredible!  Just a little bird.

How in the world does this bird find its way home?  Don’t feel bad if you don’t know the answer, this homing instinct has baffled Avian Biologists for years.  Their latest hypothesis proposes that homing pigeons use low-frequency hearing to find their way home.  Apparently, low frequency infrasound waves emanate from just about everything.  The pigeon mentally maps its home environment and from miles away, can navigate their way home!  Mind boggling!

For a Homing Pigeon, finding home is instinctual.

For a human with a free will, finding your true home is a matter of making the right decisions.

In Ecclesiastes 3:11, King Solomon writes, ‘He, (God) has made everything beautiful in its time. Also, He has put eternity in their hearts.’

Do you hunger for your ‘heavenly’ home?  Do you think about it?  Does your heart tell you that this earth is only your temporary home with its measure of ‘stealing, killing and destroying’?

Don’t you long for a place where, ‘The wolf will live with the lamb, the leopard will lie down with the goat, the calf and the lion and the yearling together; and a little child will lead them.  The cow will feed with the bear, their young will lie down together, and the lion will eat straw like the ox.  The infant will play near the cobra’s den, and the young child will put its hand into the viper’s nest.  They will neither harm nor destroy on all my holy mountain, for the earth will be filled with the knowledge of the Lord as the waters cover the sea.’  Isaiah 11:6-9.

Or do you try like so many others to fill this ‘God shaped void’ with cars, boats, trailers, houses, fame, etc.  Did you ever wonder why so many famous actors and musicians commit suicide?

They get to the top, have everything they ever wanted and still feel empty!

It’s ok to enjoy life!  King Solomon said, ‘I know that there is nothing better for people than to be happy and to do good while they live. That each of them may eat and drink and find satisfaction in all their toil—this is the gift of God. Ecclesiastes 3:12-13. And remember that Jesus first miracle was to turn water into wine!

Enjoy life!  But be aware that this earth is not supposed to be your home.  Your home is in heaven where God intended you to spend eternity with Him!!!

Make a decision to accept God’s provision, Jesus Christ, who said, ‘I am the way’, John 14:6, the way to what?   Your heavenly home.

I don’t belong here!

Where love erodes
Rust corrupts
And darkness prevails

In my home
Love and light collide
Dispelling all darkness
And fear

Hope envelops
And I live within
God’s eternal sphere. MRB
