The Lady Slipper!

Showy Lady Slipper by TBoard is licensed under CC BY 2.0.

The lady’s slipper is an orchid whose spectacular flowers are designed to attract bees.  The bees are after the flowers’ nectar, a sugary liquid secreted by the plant to encourage pollination.  The nectar provides an important energy source and the pollen provides vital proteins and fats.

The bees can only enter the orchid by pressing their way inside the ‘toe’ of the slipper and cannot exit the way they came in.  Instead they must push their way out an opening in the base of the flower and in the process the flower is pollinated.

Job 12 tells us to ‘speak to the earth, and it will teach you.’

What does the Lady Slipper have to teach us?

This orchid is a perfect illustration of how to find and receive God’s nectar, eternal life!  The bee is lured to the flower by its scent and bright color.  It then must first find and enter the only opening in the flower and press into the narrow passage to find the prized nectar.

Jesus said, ‘I am the way and the truth and the life.  No one comes to the Father except through me.’  John 14:6.   Jesus is the opening, the only way to God’s nectar, eternal life.  And this opening is through a small gate and down a narrow road!  Is it any wonder that only a few find it.  Jesus said, ‘small is the gate and narrow the road that leads to life (God’s nectar), and only a few find it.’ Matthew 7:14 NIV.

You are surrounded by the beauty of the world, its sunrises and sunsets, flowers and forests, the song of the bird, the love of a friend.  These are all God’s lures, wooing you to Himself, to His nectar, an eternal life-giving substance.  Jesus said, that ‘whoever drinks the water I give them (God’s nectar) will never thirst, indeed the water I give them will become in them a spring of water welling up to eternal life.’  John 4:14 NIV.

Have you found the ‘small gate and the narrow road’ that leads to life’?  Look for it.  Ask for it.  Follow the sent.
God said, ‘you will seek me (and my nectar) and find me, when you seek me with all your heart.’ Jeremiah 29:13 NIV.

Jesus said, ‘only a few find it’.

BE THE FEW!

Listen to the message of the Lady Slipper.  Enter that ‘small gate and narrow road’ to God’s nectar, eternal life by accepting Jesus Christ who is ‘the way the truth and the life.  Accepting Jesus Christ is very simple:  “Whosoever calls on the name of the Lord shall be saved.”
“Whosoever” that means you!

The bible tells us, ‘If you declare with your mouth, “Jesus is Lord,” and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved.  For it is with your heart that you believe and are justified, and it is with your mouth that you profess your faith and are saved.  “Everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved.”  Romans 10:9-10,13.

Say out loud, “Lord Jesus, I want to know You personally. Thank You for dying on the cross for my sins. I open the door of my life and receive You as my Savior and Lord. Thank You for forgiving me of my sins and giving me eternal life. Take control of the throne of my life. Make me the kind of person You want me to be.”  Excerpts and prayer from 4laws.com.

Tell someone that you have accepted Christ!  You can e-mail me on my blog!

Let God lead you to a church that preaches the WORD OF GOD.

And remember a lesson from FIRE.  If you separate the logs, the fire goes out.
That is why the bible admonishes you in Hebrews 10:25, to ‘not forsake the assembling of ourselves together’.   We need each other.

Next Sunday as we approach Easter, I will post a devo that will tell you the price Jesus paid for your salvation!
