‘Raven’ PXHere free image.
The Raven is a beautiful black bird whose ‘color’ is the envy of anyone wanting really black hair. You can purchase Manic Panic Raven Black or Color Ultime 1.1 Raven Black hair dye on Amazon! Edgar Allen Poe wrote a famous poem entitled ‘The Raven’. In the poem the raven is asked its name and ‘Quoth the Raven, Nevermore’.
Yes, a raven can imitate human speech like a parrot! They also use non vocal signals to communicate to each other, pointing at other objects or another bird with their beaks just as we do with our fingers! They are also very playful and can be seen rolling in snow or sliding down a snowy roof. BUT, somehow they got a bad wrap.
In some tales of the Welsh myth cycle, the Mabinogion, the raven is a harbinger of death.
Mike Cahill at Creepy Basement says that in some places, seeing just a single crow or raven is considered an omen of bad luck. Yet spotting five crows means sickness is coming and witnessing six crows means death is nearby.”
This is very interesting considering that a raven was the first bird that Noah sent out from the ark to find land.
‘After forty days Noah opened a window he had made in the ark and sent out a raven, and it kept flying back and forth until the water had dried up from the earth’. Genesis 8:6-7.
It was ravens that God commanded to bring bread and meat to Elijah in the wilderness.
‘Then the word of the LORD came to Elijah: “Leave here, turn eastward and hide in the Kerith Ravine, east of the Jordan. You will drink from the brook, and I have directed the ravens to supply you with food there.” 1 Kings 17:2-4.
In the New Testament, it was a raven that Jesus asked us to consider.
“Therefore, I tell you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat; or about your body, what you will wear. Consider the ravens: They do not sow or reap; they have no storeroom or barn; yet God feeds them. And how much more valuable you are than birds! Who of you by worrying can add a single hour to your life? Since you cannot do this very little thing, why do you worry about the rest?’ Luke 12:24-26.
Now that is a GOOD WRAP!
So again, ‘consider the ravens’!
Do you worry about where your next meal is coming from? Be assured that God loves you and will take care of you, even if He has to send ‘nevermore’ and his fellow ravens to feed you!
Stand on these promises!
‘He who did not spare his own Son, but gave him up for us all—how will he not also, along with him, graciously give us all things?’ Romans 8:32.
‘And my God will meet all your needs according to the riches of his glory in Christ Jesus’. Philippians 4:19.
I was watching the birds at a friend’s house in Van Buren Arkansas. There were so many of them just being birds and going about the business of eating, seemingly without a care in the world, somehow knowing that the God who made them would always provide what they needed year after year. And You?
So I wrote a poem.
How easily He feeds
The multitude of birds
Held in the balance
By a few seeds
Redbird Robin
Finch and Sparrow
Take notice my fearful heart
You are more
Than these. MRB
Thanks, Stu. Great message! Blessings, John & Sally

What a great lesson from God’s own creation about His provision. What a great reminder to turn from my unruly fears and stay my mind on God’s promise to take care of me!

Who knew that the raven is not a harbinger of death, but the opposite ? God knew ,the raven was his faithful helper from the very start.

That verse is one of my favorites! If He cares for birds, how would He not also care for you? And your poem at the end is beautiful.
