Did you know that one in every three families in America has one? Is it any wonder?
Dogs are intelligent and easily trained, make a faithful friend and love you unconditionally!
Konrad Lorenz, regarded as one of the founders of modern ethology, the study of animal behavior and shared winner of a Nobel Prize in physiology in 1973 is quoted as saying, “just thinking that my dog loves me more than I love him, I feel shame.”
He also said, “the fidelity of a dog is a precious gift.”
I’ve seen women carrying their little dogs in a baby carrier on their belly, in strollers or even in their purse! Oh, how they love their dogs! I saw a woman lying in the back of a pick-up truck at our veterinary clinic hugging her huge, unmoving dog. She was probably trying to deal with the pain of its parting.
I saw a man and his dog playing together on an ocean beach. They were having a ball! The love they had for each other was contagious. It was a beautiful to watch. I marveled at how it blessed me and how it must please God to see people love and enjoy their pets.
At the same time, I thought about how it must grieve God if this man loves his dog more than God Himself or is completely oblivious to the fact that God made him and the dog and made their love for each other possible.
Why did He make a dog? I believe that He wanted to show you who He is and give you a taste of the relationship He longs to have with you! God is love. He wants to love you, be your friend. Show you that He can be your ETERNAL, faithful companion. A dog is a ‘taste’ of who God is and the relationship He longs to have with you. He said, ‘taste and see that the Lord is good.’ Psalm 34:8.
Did you ever think about why a dog’s life span is so short? Perhaps it is because God wants you to ‘taste’ that He is good and not spend your life with a taste of Him, but find Him, the source for all that is good and have an eternal, not temporal relationship with Him.
It is He who wants you to take Him everywhere you go. It is God who wants to throw the ball with you on the beach. And be assured, He is eternal, and you will never have to say goodbye.
I pray that you will be able to ‘grasp how wide and long and high and deep is the love of Christ, and to know this love that surpasses knowledge.’ Ephesians 3:18-19.
If you TRULY want an eternal, intimate friendship with God Himself, I highly recommend that you read ‘The Pleasure of His Company: A journey to intimate friendship with God,’ by Dutch Sheets. Available at christianbookbag.com for only $6.99. (2022).
And/or ‘Good Morning Holy Spirit: Learning to recognize the voice of the Spirit,’ by Benny Hinn. Available at amazon.com for $13.99 (new), or as low as $2-6.00 (used) on ebay.com. (2022).
This makes me wish I was a dog person instead of a cat person. What a special gift God had given us, the loyalty and friendship of a dog. Thank God He is even more loyal in His friendship toward us it amazes me all the intricate messages He had put within His creation.
