CATS!!!

We are cat lovers!
And we are not alone.  There are (according to the Georgia Veterinary Association) 88 million cats and ONLY 75 million dogs in America!  We love cats because they keep themselves clean!  (NO doggie baths)!  They cover their poo and believe it or not, are capable of showing us affection.  Besides, THEY ARE SO CUTE!
(See the adorable pic above!)

BUT, the best thing about a cat, is they cover their poo!!!!
In this metaphoric world, this fact is extremely interesting!
Poo stinks!  It’s nasty.  I remember living in the suburbs of Seattle and periodically stepping on dog poop.  YEUK. It seems that dogs just love to poop wherever, especially on the grass parking strip.  We don’t have to keep our eyes to the ground here, our wonderful cat covers her poo.

The Bible says, Love ‘covers over a multitude of sins’. 1 Peter 4:8.  And, OH BOY, so does a cat!  Like I said, Poo stinks!  And if you’re not careful, it will get all over you.  Thank God a cat covers it, the perfect metaphor for God covering the sins of man.  It all started in the Garden of Eden.  Adam and Eve sinned against God, and He ‘covered’ their sins by making them ‘coats of skins’.  He then instituted a ‘sacrificial system’, the shedding of the blood of animals to ‘cover’ the sins of man.  All of these were precursors to the sacrificial shedding of Christ’s blood on the cross.

‘He entered once for all into the holy places, not by means of the blood of goats and calves but by means of His own blood, thus securing an eternal redemption.’  Hebrews 9:12.

‘But he has appeared once for all at the culmination of the ages to do away with sin by the sacrifice of himself.’  Hebrews 9:26.

His sacrifice ‘covered’ our sins ‘once for all’!  ‘God made him who had no sin to be sin for us, so that in him we might become the righteousness of God’.  2 Corinthians 5:21.

Next time you see a cat carefully and meticulously covering its poo, think about the fact that God in Christ covered the ‘stink’ of sin in our lives ‘ONCE FOR ALL!’

Another interesting (and informative) thing about our special cat, is its ability to make a fur ball! I wrote about this in my post called ‘The Owl and the Pussycat’.  I wrote:  You see your cat suddenly wake up from a peaceful nap and start peuking on your new rug.  And up comes a scary looking damp wad of undigested hair, commonly referred to as a hairball.  Their digestive system forms that hairball as a way of riding itself of a potentially dangerous amount of hair.

What toxic, potentially life threating things do we take into our bodies?  THOUGHTS!                                                                                Hundreds of books have been written on the subject.  Books like Stinkin’ Thinkin’, Stinkin’Thinkin’ Stinks, Whoopin’ on Stinkin’ Thinkin’, Get Out of Your Head:  Stop the spiral of Toxic Thoughts, Recycle Negative Thoughts, Change Your Thoughts, Change Your World, Change Your Thoughts, Change Your Life, Prisoners of Our Thoughts, Shut Up:  Silence the Negative Thoughts……

The Scriptures agree with the power of thoughts.  Proverbs 23:7 says, ‘As a man THINKS in his heart, so is he.’  We are what we think!  That is why God admonishes you to ‘Take into captivity every thought to the obedience of Christ.’  I love that word ‘Captive’.  Our cat takes ‘captive’ potentially harmful materials, we are admonished to take captive toxic, potentially harmful, sometimes even criminal thoughts, wrap them up in a hairball in your mind and GET RID OF THEM!

A good word, don’t you think?

Our cats love us.  I wrote a poem about one of my favorites, Sparky Boy.  My children rescued him from their Christian School parking lot.  He used to give me ‘high fives’.

A little dinner, a little love
A little dinner, a little love
A little dinner, a little love
Back and forth
(between the Friskies and my awaiting hand)
Something for me, something for you
Something for me, something for you
Wonderfully balanced
Unconditional

  1. I love cats! And I love the fact that God gives us this example of covering our “poo” ! Oh how wonderful the love and grace of our God!

  2. First, beautiful poem. It definitely accurately describes cats. Second, this is a perfect example of how taking care of your mental health is important. If we allow the negativity to stay, we will become toxic. Not only do we need Gods guidance in this life, we need those that love us and can help us on our darkest days. I believe God sends us loved ones and close friends to also show us a glimpse of His care for us.
