Did you ever wonder why earthworms end up on the sidewalk after a rainstorm?
Did you ever try to rescue them and put them back on the grass, (silly worms)?
Moles find these worms a delicacy! An earthworm can feel them coming because the mole causes the earth around them to vibrate. When they feel this vibration, they head to the surface of the dirt to escape. Scientists believe that a rainstorm vibrates the surface of the dirt in a similar way and causes the earthworm to have the same reaction, it heads to the surface.
Fishermen take advantage of this phenomenon by running a piece of steel or a hand saw across the top of a stake which causes the stake to vibrate and again, to the delight of fishermen, draws the worms to the surface.
Unfortunately, if the worm surfaces into the hands of a fisherman or near a sidewalk or driveway and makes a wrong turn, it ends up stranded on the wet concrete. Its decision to ‘listen’ to the wrong vibrations can be fatal!
What vibrations (vibrating vocal cords) are you listening to?
Think about Eve! She listened to the vibes of the serpent and decided to eat the apple! The result of her decision was COLLOSSAL, wasn’t it!!! The earth and everyone who was ever born suffers in some way because of it. As it says in Romans 8:22-23, ‘we know that the whole creation has been groaning as in the pains of childbirth (from the time of Eve’s decision) right up to the present time. Not only so, but we ourselves, who have the first fruits of the Spirit, groan inwardly as we wait eagerly for our adoption to sonship, the redemption of our bodies’.
Lot’s wife listened to her own inner voice, turned back to look at Sodom and Gomorrah and became a pillar of salt! Jonah listened to the voice of his fears and ran the wrong way, away from God’s call on his life. He was swallowed by a whale. Not good. Sampson listened to the alluring words of Delilah, got what he wanted and lost everything he had!
What do they all have in common? They listened to the wrong vibe.
I recommend a simple strategy for making a decision, it’s called, ‘The Three Harbor Lights’ from a book entitled, ‘Take Another Look at Guidance’ by Bob Mumford.
If a ship’s captain wants to safely enter a port that is narrow and filled with dangerous rocks and shoals, he just has to line up the ‘three harbor lights’ provided for him and they will guide him safely into port!
What are the three harbor lights of guidance for us?
- The word of God. What does the Bible have to say about your decision?
- The Holy Spirit. What is the Holy Spirit saying to you?
- And lastly, circumstances. (unfortunately, we tend to lean too heavily on this one).
If, however you take the time to line up your three harbor lights, your decision will have a much greater chance of being God’s will and unlike the earthworm, you will not be steered in the wrong direction by false vibes!
Oh dear God! Help me discern the vibes in my life and always interpret through your word!

Vibes can also come from discernment! Ever get that weird vibe from a person? Listen to it!
