HEAL THYSELF!

Isn’t it amazing how our body has the ability to heal itself?  Ever watched it happen?  If you have, the process of healing will fill you with wonder and gratitude!  As King David wrote in Psalm 139:14, ‘I praise you (God) because I am fearfully and wonderfully made; your works are wonderful, I know that full well.’  How many times did he watch his body heal itself?

The end of my finger was hit by a flying piece of wood from my radial arm saw.  It pushed my fingernail into what my doc called my nail bed.  He said because of the damage, you may or may not get a new fingernail.  I watched in awe and wonder as a new fingernail appeared under my old nail.  Finally, when the healing was complete, the old nail simply fell off.  Isn’t that amazing?

Scientists say this healing process is a complex, only partially understood interplay between various types of cells in your body.  When you cut yourself, platelets in your blood immediately clot to stop the bleeding which forms a scab.  The scab protects the tissues underneath the cut from germs, white blood cells ramp up to help fight infection and remove the dead, injured cells.  Blood vessels in the area open-up to bring oxygen and nutrients to the injured area. Red blood cells initiate new tissue repair by laying down a base of collagen fibers and granulation tissue overlaid by new skin cells!  And then the scab falls off!  And voila!  Your cut is healed!!!

REMARKABLE.

Does this healing bring you gratitude or do you just take it for granted?  Here is a great quote from Father Louis, a French priest ordained to the priesthood in 1949.

‘To be grateful is to recognize the love of God in everything He has given us – and He has given us everything. (including healing).  Every breath we draw is a gift of His love, every moment of existence is a grace, for it brings with it immense graces from Him.  Gratitude therefore takes nothing for granted, is never unresponsive, is constantly awakening to new wonder and to praise of the goodness of God. For the grateful person knows that God is good, not by hearsay but by experience.  And that is what makes all the difference.’

Or as Joel Osteen says it, ‘A grateful heart is like a sponge that soaks up God’s goodness.’

This healing process in our bodies is just another of the 10,000 truths that are all around us.  Open up to it and recognize that there is a God who loves you enough to give you a body that heals itself!

BE GREATFUL AND TAKE NOTHING FOR GRANTED!

  1. Hallelujah! What a wonder and gift He has given us in this human body! With all the bad things happening today it is good to focus on the “not so little wonders” if His creation and let it assure us He is there!
