SURFACE TENSION!

Water molecules stick together!!!  What is really weird, is the fact that they stick together with even greater cohesion on the surface of the water.  It is called ‘surface tension’.  These are the facts as revealed by scientists.  What they don’t say is why they stick together!  Of course, the Bible has the ultimate answer!  ‘By Him all things consist’!  Jesus, the creator of the universe holds all things together.  Colossians 1:16-17.  ‘For in him (Jesus) all things were created: things in heaven and on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or powers or rulers or authorities; all things have been created through him and for him.  He is before all things, and in him all things hold together.‘

The surface tension of water causes it to pull inward on the surface forming the beautiful water droplets we see on spider webs, on leaves and in the photo above.

To me, it’s the perfect metaphor for any group of people gathered together with a common purpose like a family, the body of Christ or even a business.  A drop of water is beautiful!

And ideally, any group of people gathered together for a common purpose would also be beautiful.  As the scripture says in Psalm 133:1, ‘How good and pleasant it is when God’s people live together (cohere) in unity!’  The people would be surrounded by leadership that, like the drop of water would have even a greater cohesion.  Listen to what the scriptures say are the qualifications for an overseer or leader:

‘Now the overseer is to be above reproach, faithful to his wife, temperate, self-controlled, respectable, hospitable, able to teach, not given to drunkenness, not violent but gentle, not quarrelsome, not a lover of money.  He must manage his own family well.’  1 Timothy 3:2-4.

And in 1 Peter 5:2-3, ‘Be shepherds of God’s flock that is under your care, watching over them—not because you must, but because you are willing, as God wants you to be; not pursuing dishonest gain, but eager to serve; not lording it over those entrusted to you, but being examples to the flock.’  1 Peter 5:2-3.

Do you have leaders that fit these qualifications?  Do you ‘cohere’ with the members of your family, the body of Christ or a business?  Do you do as the scripture admonishes you to regarding your parents, your boss or the apostles, prophets, evangelists, pastors or teachers that God gave to your local church?

We are to ‘Have confidence in our leaders (parents, and boss) and submit to their authority, because they keep watch over us as those who must give an account.  Do this so that their work will be a joy, not a burden, for that would be of no benefit to you.’  Hebrews 13:17.

And, ‘Let the (parents, bosses) elders who rule well be considered worthy of double honor, especially those who labor in preaching and teaching.’ – 1 Timothy 5:17.

The scriptures have words to admonish us regarding our family, the body of Christ and toward those we work for!!!

Regarding our family!

Children, obey your parents in the Lord, for this is right.  Honor your father and mother—which is the first commandment with a promise—(WHY) so that it may go well with you and that you may enjoy long life on the earth.’ Ephesians 6:1-3.

Regarding those in authority over us; our boss on the job or the police.

‘Slaves, (or anyone working for someone else) obey your earthly masters (bosses) with respect and fear, and with sincerity of heart, just as you would obey Christ.  Obey them not only to win their favor when their eye is on you, but as slaves of Christ, doing the will of God from your heart.  Serve wholeheartedly, as if you were serving the Lord, not people, because you know that the Lord will reward each one for whatever good they do, whether they are slave or free.’  Ephesians 6:5-8.
In other words, anyone who blesses others will be blessed by the Lord!

Regarding those in. authority over us in the Church, the body of Christ:

So ‘Christ himself gave the apostles, the prophets, the evangelists, the pastors and teachers, to equip his people for works of service, so that the body of Christ may be built up until we all reach unity in the faith and in the knowledge of the Son of God and become mature, attaining to the whole measure of the fullness of Christ.  Then we will no longer be infants, tossed back and forth by the waves, and blown here and there by every wind of teaching and by the cunning and craftiness of people in their deceitful scheming. Instead, speaking the truth in love, we will grow to become in every respect the mature body of him who is the head, that is, Christ.  From him the whole body, joined and held together by every supporting ligament, grows and builds itself up in love, as each part does its work.’  Ephesians 4:11-16.

AND  THEN, WE WILL BE BEAUTIFUL AS A DROP OF DEW!
