Isn’t the photo above astounding!!!
It is a photo of Lake Matheson in New Zealand taken by Ruth Lawson. It shows a spectacular reflection of Mt Cook and Mt Tasman in the still water of the lake.
Reflection is God’s invention! Reflections are in every corner of the world, in lakes, ponds and puddles. Everyone has seen them, and I am certain most have been awestruck by them, but how many people stop to think about why God created them?
MY READERS DO, RIGHT?
You, my reader knows that ‘the invisible things of God are clearly seen in the things that He has made.’ That everything He made has a message. The more prevalent the occurrence in The Book of Nature, the more important the message!!!
Reflections are everywhere. Why did God invent them?
A reflection only occurs when the surface is reflective, like a mirror, chrome on an automobile or the surface of perfectly still water. In the photo above, light coming off the mountains bounces off the surface of the water uninterrupted because the water is perfectly still. Any wind or disturbance of the water would adversely affect the clarity of the reflection!
Isn’t this a metaphor about our relationship with Christ? We are called to be ‘conformed to His image’. Romans 8:29…to REFLECT Him perfectly. Jesus is ‘the light of the world’.
John 8:12. And you are admonished to be the same! To be a reflection of Him! ‘You are (also) the light of the world! Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works and glorify your Father in heaven.’ Matthew 5:14-16.
How do we become a better reflection of Him?
By spending time with Him. By simply beholding Him we are being transformed into His image, His reflection! ‘But we all, with unveiled faces, beholding as in a mirror the glory of the Lord, are being transformed into the same image from glory to glory, just as by the Spirit of the Lord.’ 2 Corinthians 3:18. NKJV.
By studying His word so that we may be complete! The perfect reflection of who He is! ‘All Scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness, that the man of God may be complete, thoroughly equipped for every good work.’ 2 Timothy 3:16-17.
When you think about it, isn’t a reflection also a metaphor for the following scripture:
‘Above all, love each other deeply, because love covers over a multitude of sins.‘
1 Peter 4:8.
My wife and I quite often walk along the shores of Lake Pretty Water here in Sapulpa. We have seen many beautiful reflections in the water of the trees along the shore. BUT, we also know that the water is grossly murky and under its surface are old tires and a multitude of trash. The beauty of the reflection ‘covers’ a multitude of yeukyness, just as love covers a multitude of sin.
I wrote a poem about this after seeing a beautiful reflection on a pond:
Lesson reflection
On a pond
So perfect
Like the smile
On so many pretty faces
It cleverly conceals
The insidious decay
Just below the surface. MRB
You know anyone like that? A pretty reflection, but inside (where it counts) is insidious decay?
Thank God that God who is love has covered our multitude of sins!!!!!!
Blessed are those whose transgressions are forgiven,
whose sins are covered.
Romans 4:7-8.

It’s amazing how everyday occurrences, like a reflection become so much more when we look for the spiritual message He had hidden within!
