Well, YES!! So to speak….In the dense tropical rainforest’s competitive ecosystem, sunlight and nutrients are hard to come by. There is a Palm Tree nicknamed ‘The Walking Tree’ because of its ability to ‘move’ along the forest floor by adjusting its roots. Its roots form a stilt-like cluster that supports the trunk of the tree. (See photo above). If more sun is available on one side, the roots on the sunny side grow in that direction while the roots on ‘the dark side’ wither and die. This moves the plant towards a sunnier canopy. IT’S WALKING they say!
Receiving the light from the sun is a matter of LIFE AND DEATH for the ‘Walking Tree’!!!
Receiving the light from the SON, who is the ‘light of the world’, is a matter of LIFE AND DEATH FOR YOU!!!
The scriptures make this clear: ‘Whoever has the Son has life; whoever does not have the Son of God does not have life.’ 1 John 5:12.
WOW, no wonder Jesus put the message of our need for Him in every one of the billions of plants you see out your window, desperately seeking light. Think about it! The scripture says, ‘Every matter is established by the testimony of two or three witnesses.’
Matthew 18:16. Here you have a matter established by every tree, bush, blade of grass and even kelp under water. Obviously, God has given man every opportunity to ‘read’ the Book of Nature and understand that you cannot have life apart from Him! You can read about it again in one of my first posts, ‘Look Out Your Window’.
Every one of the 400,000 species of green plants you see out your window needs light.
This is not the first plant we’ve seen in my blog that has a hunger for the sun! As you (may have) read in one of my first posts ‘Look Out Your Window’, the mallow, an herb moves from East to West making sure it faces the sun all day long! At night, it turns itself again toward the east in anticipation of the coming sun the next morning. Apparently so does the Sunflower!
They transform light into food through a process called photosynthesis. Without light, they would starve to death, wither, and die! That is why the Walking Tree goes to the extra effort to seek the light of the sun!
What is your source of life? God is telling you to turn your face toward His S-O-N who was meant to be your source of life! Psalm 105:4 says it so well. ‘Seek the Lord and His strength; Seek His face evermore!’
Jesus said, “I am the light of the world. He who follows Me (like the mallow) shall not walk in darkness but have the light of life.” John 8:12 NKJV
It reminds me of the song that admonishes us to, ‘Turn your eyes upon Jesus, look full in His wonderful face, and the things of earth will grow strangely dim in the light of His glory and grace.’
