ELEPHANTS NEVER FORGET!

Have you ever been told that ‘You have a memory like an elephant’?
If someone says this to you it is usually about something they hoped you would forget!
It is a common expression, because elephants have a reputation for having a good memory.   It is true.  Their memory is far superior to that of any other animals.
Research has shown that they can recognize as many as 30 members of their own herd. And they don’t just remember their companions they’ve spent long stretches of time with, but also remember friendly elephants that they only spent a short time with.  In one case, two female elephants who had performed together in a circus for only a few months, recognized each other 22 years later!

Another example of an elephant’s ability to remember comes from desert-adapted elephants where the matriarch remembers where water can be found and will guide their herd to water over very long distances and remember where the water is over a span of many years!  It’s no wonder they can remember, they do have a 10.5-pound brain!

The elephant’s ability to remember made me think about GOD’S INFINITE MEMORY!

He remembers your name and the name of every person who has ever been born! He remembers everything about you and everything he’s ever created!   ‘His eyes are on the ways of mortals; he sees their every step’. Job 34:21.  ‘Even the very hairs of your head are all numbered!’ Matthew 10:30. God is omniscient (all knowing).  As Louie Giglio wrote in his book, ‘Not forsaken’, ‘God knows everything about everything’, including you!

‘Your frame was not hidden from God when you were made in the secret place, when He wove you together in the depths of the earth.  His eyes saw your unformed body; all the days ordained for you were written in His book before one of them came to be.’
Psalm 139:15-16.

Remember Zacchaeus, (Luke 19:1-10), the short taxman who Jesus singled out in the crowd?  He remembered his name!  He knows your name.  Do you know His?  Remember the woman at the well. (John 4:4-26). Jesus knew all about her!  Do you know Him?  He knows you intimately, remembers everything about you and still loves you deeply!  As my pastor Jamie says every Sunday, ‘Jesus loves you and there is absolutely nothing you can do about it!’ As Jesus said, “Are not two sparrows sold for a penny? Yet not one of them will fall to the ground outside your Father’s care.  So, don’t be afraid; you are worth more than many sparrows.” Mathew 10:29, 31.

Jesus remembers, but thank God, HE ALSO FORGETS!

When you come to know Him, He ‘blots out your transgressions, and remembers your sins no more!’ Isaiah 43:25, Hebrews 8:12.

THANK GOD!
