LIGHT!

Dandelion photo by MRB

Most everyone loves light.  They are thankful for it.  Light brings life to this physical world.  Without light, there would be no life.  Plants know this!  You’ve seen them bend around a corner, desperate to reach the light like the dandelions above.

What’s the first thing you do when you enter a dark room?  You turn on a light.  We just take light for granted.  But stop and think about light for a moment.  When you turn on that light, what do feel?  You feel relief…(thank God there is light!)  Because light dispels the darkness so you can see where you are going, what lies ahead.  It makes you aware of any danger that might be lurking in the darkness.  Your response to the presence of light was planned!

God created you to love, appreciate and need light.

We just don’t think about it.

THINK ABOUT IT!

Light is telling you a powerful spiritual truth!  It is trying to tell you just how much you will love and be thankful for the light that God sent to this earth through His son Jesus Christ.  Jesus is called the ‘light’ of this world!

‘When Jesus spoke again to the people, he said, “I am the light of the world.  Whoever follows me will never walk in darkness but will have the light of life.’  John 8:12.

What is He talking about? You can see, you have your eyes open, and you don’t see any darkness.  Yes, you can see physically, but there is a spiritual world all around you.  Think about it!

If you cannot see it, if you don’t have spiritual eyes, you don’t know that it exists, then the scripture says that you live in darkness, that ‘the god of this age has blinded (your) mind as an unbeliever (in Christ), so that (you) cannot see the light of the gospel that displays the glory of Christ, who is the image of God.’  2 Corinthians 4:4.

This ‘light of life’ Jesus spoke about will remove that darkness.

‘In him was life, and that life was the light of all mankind’.  John 1:4.

His light brings life to those that receive it.  His light illuminates and dispels the darkness in our lives that keeps us from seeing the kingdom of God.

As the scripture admonishes us, ‘fix your eyes not on what is seen, but what is unseen, since what is seen is temporary, but what is unseen is eternal.’  2 Corinthians 4:18.

Most people just keep their eyes on this temporal, ‘seen’, physical world.  The trouble is, this seen world will one day pass away.  The unseen, spiritual world is eternal and will never pass away.

Like the dandelions in my photo above, how desperate are you for the light??

Ask ‘the light of this world’ to open your eyes!!

Then you will learn to ‘praise Him who called you out of darkness into His wonderful light!’ 1 Peter 2:9.

Joyful, Joyful
Lord, we adore Thee
God of glory
Lord of love
Hearts unfold like flowers before Thee
Hail Thee as the sun above
Melt the clouds of sin and sadness
Drive the dark of doubt away
Giver of immortal gladness
Fill us with the light
Fill us with the light
Oh, fill us with the light of day          Henry J. Van Dyke

  1. Oh! Yes! Fill us with your light so we don’t stumble, but if we happen to stumble, may your light help us to stand up and and start walking again!
