THE COCKROACH,

LOVERS OF DARKNESS!

There are metaphors and then there are metaphors.  This is one that everyone who has seen cockroaches in action at one time or another is aware of, yet how many stop to think about it or understand it.  Cockroaches hate light!

If someone has roaches in their home or apartment and turn on a light, the roaches immediately and desperately seek the dark.  This is just like the words of Jesus in John 3: ‘This is the verdict: Light has come into the world, but people loved darkness instead of light because their deeds were evil.  Everyone who does evil hates the light and will not come into the light for fear that their deeds will be exposed.  But whoever lives by the truth comes into the light, so that it may be seen plainly that what they have done has been done in the sight of God.  John 3:19-21.

And just like people ‘who love the darkness’, they are deathly afraid of being found out!

Don’t like cockroaches?  You can blame the cargo ships which brought them to America from Africa.  You have reason not to like them.  According to the Center for Disease Control and Prevention, they can carry many dangerous germs and bacteria including Salmonella food poisoning, Staphylococcus, E. Coli bacteria, Typhoid fever and Gastroenteritis or inflammation of the stomach!!!  And they cheat!  They produce antibacterial chemicals on their skin (like hand sanitizer) making themselves resistant to nearly every disease.  They can hold their breath underwater for 40 minutes, go without food for 3 months and water for one month.  They can run up to 4 mph at only a day old!  Fortunately for us, 99.7% of the 4000 species of cockroaches live away from people!  Thank God the 6 inch ones live somewhere else!

P.S.  American cockroaches love beer!

These facts prove that cockroaches are some of the most adaptable creatures on earth, which makes controlling and eliminating a cockroach infestation all the more difficult. To get rid of cockroaches in your home, experts suggest keeping food sealed and stored properly, particularly in the kitchen, which should be cleaned daily to prevent crumbs and trash from building up. Garbage should be disposed of regularly and stored in sealed containers. Homeowners should seek out and seal all cracks and holes in their homes, including entry points for utilities and pipes, as these can serve as entranceways for the pest. In addition, basements and crawl spaces should be kept well ventilated and dry.  Pestworld.

The fact is, God wants us to run towards the light, not away from it like a cockroach!

He wants you to run towards Jesus, who is the light of the world!   He said, ‘I am the light of the world.  Whoever follows me will never walk in darkness, but will have the light of life.’    John 8:12.
This light He is speaking of is Spiritual light.  Since the fall of man, mankind has been born in what the scripture calls spiritual darkness, separated from God and unable to see the Kingdom of God or hear His voice.  Jesus said, ‘I have come into the world as a light, so that no one who believes in me should stay in darkness.’  John 12:46.

‘For he has rescued us from the dominion of darkness and brought us into the kingdom of the Son he loves, in whom we have redemption, the forgiveness of sins.’  Colossians 1:13.

Run to Him who is light and He will dispel the darkness and you will be able to see His kingdom, hear His voice and fellowship with Him as He originally intended.

RUN!
