HEAR, HERE!

“What big ears you have, grandma! All the better to hear you with, my dear!”
Little Red Riding Hood was right!  And so are you if you said the same thing to this ‘Long Eared Jerboa’ pictured above!  It has the longest ears relative to its size in the entire animal kingdom!!!

It is a reminder to us that God wants us to use our ears (long or not) to hear His voice!

This cute critter weighs only 2.3 ounces, according to ‘Critter Science’! It is typically 6.3 inches tall, but its kangaroo like feet help it jump up 9.8 feet into the air to prey on its favorite meal, flying insects!  They also help him run at a ‘hopping speed’ of 15 miles per hour.  In addition, those fabulous ears make it possible to hear the bugs coming!  Isn’t that amazing.  They also cool them down through thermoregulation which circulates blood in those big, high surface area ears.  You can only find them in the deserts of China and Mongolia.

The Jerboa’s ears are certainly special, but so are yours!  Right in the beginning of time, Adam and Eve used their ears to hear the sound of the Lord God and His voice. ‘Then the man and his wife heard the sound of the LORD God as he was walking in the garden in the cool of the day.’  Genesis 3:8. They could hear God’s voice and so can you.  And you don’t need big ears!  Jesus said, ‘My sheep hear my voice and I know them and they follow me.’  John 10:27. NKJV.

How can we hear His voice?  And do you?

You have to want to hear Him and have a relationship with Him.  Don’t forget, the entire bible is God’s word.  ‘All Scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness, that the man of God may be complete, thoroughly equipped for every good work.’  2 Timothy 3:16-17.

You can hear Him speak on every page!

Like you, I have had times when I had to make big decisions!!!  I wanted to do God’s will!  Upon the completion of my bachelor’s degree in Sculpture at the University of Washington, I wondered if I should I apply to graduate school at the U.W. or apply to a school of photography?  I prayed!  I heard His voice in my mind.  He said, “speak in tongues (‘Anyone who speaks in a tongue edifies themselves.’  1 Corinthians 14:4) and interpret your words.  I obeyed and through the interpretation, He said, “Stay in the gift you’ve been given.”  I knew He meant sculpture, I applied to grad school and was one of only three students accepted into their program from the U.W…  The rest is history.

Another time, we were living in Seattle.  I lost my job and heard of a teaching position at Oral Roberts University in Tulsa, Oklahoma.  They flew me to Tulsa.  After a day of very favorable interviews, I was walking across campus and God anointed me from my head to my toes (Like getting hit with a bucket of love), and I heard Him speak in my mind.  He said, “This is where I want you.  I will give you a new beginning.  I will bless you and bless people through you.”  We moved to Tulsa!!!!  ‘The steps of a good man are ordered by the Lord, And He delights in his way.’  Psalm 37:23. NKJV.

God wants to protect you.  I once heard Him say, “Don’t step there!”  I was emptying grass from my riding mower to the side of my yard and had I ‘stepped there’ I would have stepped on a Copperhead Snake!  ‘For He shall give His angels charge over you, to keep you in all your ways.  In their hands they shall bear you up, lest you dash your foot against a stone.’
Psalm 91:11-12.  NKJV.

Another time I was worshiping God on my way home from a church service.  I heard a voice in my mind say, “Stop the truck!”  He had to say it three times before I obeyed Him.  When I stopped, He again anointed me with His love!!!  ‘He inhabits the praises of His people!’
Psalm 22:3.

Usually for me, His speaking in my mind does seem to come out of nowhere.  I’ve been in several restaurants and heard Him say, “See that man over there?  Buy him dinner.  And I have. Hearing His voice is a blessing to others, but also to you!‘
If you are willing and obedient, you will eat the good things of the land.’  Isaiah 1:19.

But by far, the greatest way to hear His voice in my opinion is by journaling.  Take time to talk to Him.  He said, ‘Be still and know that I am God!  Psalm 46:10.  Ask Him questions and write down His answers.  You will be surprised how easy this is, it just takes time.  Remember, He said, “Ask and it will be given to you…Matthew 7:7.

  1. I’m reminded of the scripture proverbs 18:13, to answer without listening is folly. Or a man that has few words, indicating a listening ear is considered wise.
