THE BODY!

‘There are joys that long to be ours.  God sends 10,000 truths which come to us like birds seeking inlet; but we are shut up to them, so they bring us nothing, but sit and sing upon the roof, and then fly away.’
The quote above is from the intro to my blog.  It was written in the late 1500’s by an English writer named Izaak Walton, five hundred years ago!!!

Your body contains many of these truths for you to think about!
Don’t be ‘shut up to them’!

Your body is a perfect metaphor for a spiritual truth.  God has created not only physical bodies, but a spiritual body called the body of Christ.  When you accept Him, you become a part of it, with Christ as the head! ‘Christ is ‘the head of the body, the church.’
Colossians 1:18.

Hopefully you were born with and continue to have a physical body without any disabilities. As one person said, ‘being disabled mostly sucks!  Another said, ‘It really sucks.
I hate it. I feel like I’m cursed.’

Thank God, the body of Christ has a perfect head!  In this body there are no disabilities!

The Apostle Paul makes it clear that the body of Christ, like our own bodies has many parts. If your eyes or ears, legs or arms, any part of you physically doesn’t work, those within the body of Christ do!!!  The problem as he stated it in 1 Corinthians 12:14-27 is not that the parts don’t work, it’s that they need to work together.  He admonishes us to recognize that we need each other just like our physical bodies need all the parts to function.  If you are physically blind, you still need the ears, etc.

He said, ‘Even so the body is not made up of one part but of many.  Now if the foot should say, “Because I am not a hand, I do not belong to the body,” it would not for that reason stop being part of the body. And if the ear should say, “Because I am not an eye, I do not belong to the body,” it would not for that reason stop being part of the body.  If the whole body were an eye, where would the sense of hearing be? If the whole body were an ear, where would the sense of smell be?  But in fact, God has placed the parts in the body, every one of them, just as he wanted them to be.  If they were all one part, where would the body be?

As it is, there are many parts, but one body. The eye cannot say to the hand, “I don’t need you!” And the head cannot say to the feet, “I don’t need you!”  On the contrary, those parts of the body that seem to be weaker are indispensable, and the parts that we think are less honorable we treat with special honor. And the parts that are unpresentable are treated with special modesty, while our presentable parts need no special treatment. But God has put the body together, giving greater honor to the parts that lacked it, so that there should be no division in the body, but that its parts should have equal concern for each other.  If one part suffers, every part suffers with it; if one part is honored, every part rejoices with it.  Now you are the body of Christ, and each one of you is a part of it.’ And, as I said, Christ is the head!  Think about what this means!  God’s brain is perfect!  The omniscient God who knows everything, the omnipresent God who is present everywhere at the same time and the omnipotent God who has unlimited power, who is able to do anything is in control of the spiritual body you can be a part of!!!  He offers you perfect peace, perfect love, perfect joy!

He places you perfectly within His body with purpose and a plan.  Who wouldn’t want what the body of Christ has to offer. Without the body of Christ, you are own your own.  It’s like living without a head!

  1. Mr. B,

Your quotes from the disabled person(s)… Is that from me when I was in your classes over 35 years ago? Sounds like something I would’ve said. 🤣 Unfortunately, it’s even more true now.
