‘Birds’ photo by Ian Livesey on StockSnap.
Watching the birds in amazement, I wrote this poem…
How easily he feeds
The multitude of birds
Held in the balance
By a few seeds
Redbird, Robin
Finch and Sparrow
Take notice my fearful heart
You are more
Than these.
According to AZ Animals, ‘there are 50 billion birds in the world!!!!’
Yet God feeds them every day!!! I really don’t think He needs our help, but according to Georgia Wildlife, ‘Bird feeding is big — really big. Roughly one-third of all North Americans older than sixteen feed birds. Americans alone feed their feathered neighbors more than a billion pounds of wild bird seed annually.’
‘Birds around the world eat 400 to 500 million metric tons of beetles, flies, ants, moths, aphids, grasshoppers, crickets and other arthropods per year. The research highlights the important role birds play in keeping plant-eating insect populations under control.’ Science Daily.
Like I said, think about the fact that God feeds them every day and has for millions of years.
That is why Jesus said not to worry where your next meal is going to come from. As I stated in my poem, ‘You are more than these’!
Jesus said, ‘Therefore I tell you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat or drink; or about your body, what you will wear. Is not life more than food, and the body more than clothes? Look at the birds of the air; they do not sow or reap or store away in barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not much more valuable than they? But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well.’ Matthew 6:25-26, 33.
‘44 percent of Americans lie awake at night because of stress. “Stress in America: Our Health at Risk,” 2011. American Psychological Association. From my post, ‘Playing Possum’.
Are you stressed? Are you one of those who worry? Remember, what Jesus also said, ‘Your Father knows what you need before you ask him.’ Matthew 6:8.
And hear the words of King David, ‘I was young and now I am old, yet I have never seen the righteous forsaken or their children begging bread.’ Psalm 37:25.
Remember who you are! You’re not a bird. Christ died for you. He said, ‘you are much more valuable than a bird’. Let me share the following that was handed to us in church: (Origin unknown.). It is such a blessing to know that:
I HAVE GREAT WORTH APART FROM MY PERFORMANCE BECAUSE CHRIST GAVE HIS LIFE FOR ME, AND THEREFORE, IMPARTED GREAT VALUE TO ME.
I AM DEEPLY LOVED, FULLY PLEASING, TOTALLY FORGIVEN, ACCEPTED AND COMPLETE IN CHRIST.
Be encouraged by the lyrics of ‘His Eye is on the Sparrow’, written by Civilla D. Martin and Charles H. Gabriel in 1905,
Why should I feel discouraged,
Why should the shadows come,
Why should my heart be lonely,
And long for heaven and home.
When Jesus is my portion,
My constant Friend is He;
His eye is on the sparrow,
And I know He watches me.
I sing because I’m happy
I sing because I’m free,
For His eye is on the sparrow,
And I know He watches me.
DON’T STRESS!
Thank God I don’t have to worry or fear about my existence or His provisions for my existence! Sometimes I have to remind myself of this truth! Be still and know that I am God. Psalm 46:10!

Giving our cares over to God can be tough. BUT! If He cares and provides for birds, and we are more than these, I know He will provide for me as well. Such a comforting notion!

If there was ever a time for these thoughts, this is it.
Christians should know this by heart, but we are human and sometimes forgetful.
Thank you for the words of encouragement.
