BETTONGS!

Job said, ‘Ask the animals, and they will teach you’.  What can we learn from a tiny Bettong?

A bettong is a miniature kangaroo!  It is a marsupial (carries its young in a pouch) and is propelled by powerful back legs.  It is only 12-15 inches big and is native to Southern Australia.

On the positive side, it is known as an eco-engineer or ‘natures little gardeners’ because its preferred food is truffles, the fruiting bodies of underground fungi.                                       It can smell them underground and can turn over 2-6 TONS of soil per year digging for them.  This is good for the eco system.  Digging aerates the soil, improves water filtration, and helps seedlings to germinate.

On the negative side, this tiny, miniature kangaroo has some shocking behavior!

When threatened by a predator, the bettong will eject its tiny joey (baby) from its pouch and bounce off in a different direction!  (From an article entitled, ‘It looks like a tiny kangaroo and it’s bouncing back from the brink of extinction’ on CNN News by Alex Rodway and Angus Watson.)

Does this sound familiar?  We humans do the same thing!  We abort our babies!!!
This should be equally shocking!!!
Why do women do this?  They too feel threatened!  According to an article from ‘Medical News’ entitled, ‘What are different reasons to have an abortion, they feel threatened by financial concerns, lack of employment, lack of insurance or governmental assistance, timing; they don’t feel emotionally or financially ready or think they are too old, or their partner is either abusive or doesn’t want a baby.’

You would think that the Bettong would rather keep their babies since they are an ‘critically endangered species’.

What about the population growth of America?  In an article in Marripedia entitled, ‘The Effects of Abortion on the U.S. Population’ they reported that ’53 million abortions occurred between 1973 and 2011!  That’s a lot of potential population growth.  In addition, there is a staggering economic impact.  The same article goes on to say, ‘eliminating a population through abortion destroys a population that will work and pay taxes.  Legalizing abortion imposes a loss of between $70 billion and $135 billion of economic activity (valued work), and between $10 billion and $33 billion in annual tax revenue.’

Why don’t we learn from the Bettong?  Ultimately it is only hurting itself by ejecting its joey from its pouch!

And what do we really have to be threatened by????
The Bible makes it clear that God will supply all your needs according to the riches of His glory in Christ Jesus.’ Philippians 4:19.

‘And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose.’ Romans 8:28.
