The redwood tree is the tallest tree on earth. Your local coast redwood tree can grow to 300 feet or more, yet its root system is only 6 to 12 feet deep. Redwoods create the strength to withstand powerful winds and floods by extending their roots more than 50 feet from the trunk and living in groves where their roots can intertwine.
This amazing tree reminded me of a scripture found in Ecclesiastes 4:12.
‘By yourself you’re unprotected. With a friend you can face the worst. Can you round up a third? A three-stranded rope isn’t easily snapped’. The Message Bible. The redwood is telling you, don’t try to stand alone! Send out your roots far and wide and find those friends that you can intertwine your roots with! People who will stand with you through the storms of life! You were never meant to try to make it on your own!
Did you know that the best friend you can have is Jesus!!! And above all intertwine your roots with Him!
As the scripture says, ‘he who is joined to the Lord is one spirit with Him.’
1Corinthians 6:17. NKJV. Become one with Him! Friends may fail you, but Jesus is ‘the friend who sticks closer than a brother.’ ‘One who has unreliable friends soon comes to ruin, but there is a friend who sticks closer than a brother.’ Proverbs 18:24.
Matthew Henry’s commentary says it this way; ‘In troubles we expect comfort and relief from our relations, but sometimes there is a friend, that is nothing akin to us, the bonds of whose esteem and love prove stronger than those of nature, and when it comes to the trial, will do more for us than a brother will. Christ is a friend to all believers that sticks closer than a brother.’
God has also provided THE BODY OF CHRIST! If you are a Christian, you are part of that body! ‘Just as a body, though one, has many parts, but all its many parts form one body, so it is with Christ. For we were all baptized by one Spirit so as to form one body—whether Jews or Gentiles, slave or free—and we were all given the one Spirit to drink. Now you are the body of Christ, and each one of you is a part of it. There should be no division in the body, but its parts should have equal concern for each other. If one part (you) suffers, every part suffers with it; if one part is honored, every part rejoices with it.’
1 Corinthians 12-13, 25-27.
In other words, as part of the body of Christ, we are intertwined like the roots of the magnificent redwood trees!
