THE EXPLORER!

Your tongue is quite the explorer!  It can find a single eyelash in your mouth or find some irritating new chip or hole in your teeth and drive you crazy!  That is because, according to the ‘National Library of Medicine’, ‘the tip of the tongue is the part of the body that is most sensitive to touch.’  Its sensitivity helps it magnify the size of very small objects in your mouth like pieces of grit or fish bones or even the tiniest of eyelashes.  Isn’t that extraordinary!!!

I am reminded of one of my favorite scriptures, ‘He performs wonders that cannot be fathomed, miracles that cannot be counted.’  Job 5:9. This post is about the wonders of the tongue that I want us to think about.  Remember, it was invented by our savior, Jesus who, ‘created all things.’ ‘For in Him (Jesus) all things were created: things in heaven and on earth.’  Colossians 1:16.

Your tongue is made up of eight different muscles!  No wonder it is so flexible.  Did you know that there is a man who holds the Guinness Book of Records for the worlds fastest cherry stem tying with his tongue!!!  He tied 14 cherry stems in a knot in one minute and 911 stems in one hour!   Can you believe it?

Cherry stem tying is a big deal!  If you want to learn more, watch the video below entitled,
‘4x World Cherry Stem Tying Champion.’

The tongues’ flexibility allows you to form sounds with your palate, teeth and lips.  Do the following fun exercise and you will become even more aware of the wonders of your tongue. Say the alphabet slowly, noting what the tongue does with each letter.  It may raise up, drop down, touch your teeth or curl up at the sides!  It gives us the gift of speech.

How would you like to be a Blue Whale?  Their tongue weighs 5,400 pounds!!!  Or an ant eater with a 24-inch-long tongue!  Ever wonder why a giraffe’s 21-inch tongue is black?  The color is melanin and acts as a type of sunblock while it reaches for tender leaves with its tongue!  Jesus thinks of everything!

We have 3 to 10,000 taste buds on our tongue.  And each of these taste buds have 50 to 150 nerve endings.  No wonder it is so sensitive!  Your tongue not only tastes your food but moves it around in your mouth to be chewed.  Did you ever wonder how in the world it manages to stay out of the way and not be bitten?  Wonders never cease.

The bible also has much to say about your tongue.  As marvelous as it is, it needs to be tamed because, as the scripture says, ‘The tongue has the power of life and death.’  Proverbs 18:21.

In other words, your tongue is powerful.  You can speak life or death with it to yourself or others!  Your own ‘life’ is dependent on it because we use it to say ‘Jesus is Lord’ in order to receive life!  ‘If you declare with your mouth, “Jesus is Lord,” and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved.’  Romans 10:9.

As Peter, the disciple wrote in the Bible, ‘Whoever would love life and see good days must keep their tongue from evil and their lips from deceitful speech.  They must turn from evil and do good; they must seek peace and pursue it.’
1 Peter 3:10-11.

GUARD YOUR TONGUE AND LOVE LIFE!
