MT. RAINIER!!!

Mt. Rainier is Seattle’s mountain.  Look south on a sunny day in Seattle and there it is looming large in the sky at 14,400 feet!  Did you ever ask yourself why God made a mountain?

Psalm 148 makes it clear that He created everything to give Him PRAISE!
It says, Praise Him, sun and moon and all you shining stars….Praise the LORD from the earth, you great sea creatures and all ocean depths, lightning and hail, snow and clouds, stormy winds that do His bidding, YOU MOUNTAINS and all hills, fruit trees and all cedars…………
AND….,of course young men and women, old men and children.  (That would be you and me) Let them praise the name of the LORD, for his name alone is exalted; his splendor is above the earth and the heavens.

Everything God created was immediately commanded to praise Him!  This is what you would hear if God commanded this huge rock (Mt. Rainier) to cry out!  As you recall, my blog is called, ‘THE ROCKS CRY OUT’.  The first scripture and origin of my title is Luke 19:37-40.  ‘Then, as He was now drawing near the descent of the Mount of Olives, the whole multitude of the disciples began to rejoice and praise God with a loud voice for all the mighty works they had seen, saying: “Blessed is the King who comes in the name of the Lord!  Peace in heaven and glory in the highest!”  And some of the Pharisees called to Him from the crowd, “Teacher, rebuke your disciples.”  But He answered and said to them, “I tell you that if these should keep silent, the rocks would immediately cry out.”
I believe everyone does ‘hear’ Him in their Spirit as the ‘rocks cry out!,  As they stand on or view this mountain.  They sense its magnificence, they are awed by the breathtaking beauty of the mountain, its lakes, rock faces, waterfalls and wildflowers.  They sense how small they are in comparison to this huge rock.

It humbles them in a good way.  It gives them a new perspective on life.  It lifts them above it all.  They feel a sense of peace standing there or just looking at it, knowing that it has been there for a very long time and will still be there far into the future.  They sense that someone made it just for them even if they don’t know His name.  They sense mystery.  There is so much to see, hear and explore on a mountain.

Do you realize that all of this describes who God is!!!!

It is the very words of praise that this mountain was commanded to ‘speak’!

If you could ‘hear’ It, this is what you would hear! “God is magnificent.  He is awe inspiring.  He is beautiful!  He is so much bigger than you are and yet He loves you.  He is peace.   He is ‘the same yesterday, today and forever”  And it will take forever to even begin to know the depths of who God is.  Whether they know it or not, you are ‘hearing’ the mountain cry out the attributes of God!

He is trying to tell you all of this!

He made mountains and all this natural world to draw us to Himself as we see and ‘hear’ all that He is and recognize that He did this just for us because He loves us and wants us to know Him and wants us to give Him praise!!!

Romans 1:20 makes this clear!

‘For since the creation of the world God’s invisible qualities—his eternal power and divine nature—have been clearly seen, being understood from what has been made, so that people are without excuse for not knowing Him.  Whether they know it or not, they are ‘hearing’ the mountain cry out the attributes of God!

Go visit this mountain and be inspired!!!

You can actually drive up the mountain on the north or south sides.  Paradise – Mount Rainier National Park is located on the south side of the park.  Sunrise is on the north side.  It is located at the highest point that can be reached by vehicle at 6,400 feet.  The roads that lead up the mountain are closed in the winter.  I would advise you to wait until a clear day when the mountain is visible from Seattle before venturing up the mountain.
July – August is the best time to visit this beautiful part of God’s country!

Due to the popularity of these National Park sites, they are now requiring you to make a Timed Entry Reservation.  Go to recreation.gov web site to get one! You can also sign up for a guided tour to hike to the summit of the mountain.

I recommend you watch the following video if you want more info on Mt. Rainier National Park.   https://youtu.be/AQEhiqZjxDw?si=Fdha8ERYB6cG296A

  1. Mountains are impressive and can be inspirational, people considered some mountains to be sacred places. You are right, they do help us see the grandeur of the world we live in and how small we are. I never thought about what a mountain could sound like, I imagine it would be load.

Thank you for a thought-provoking article.
