‘Burning Bush’ photo by Tanaka Juuyoh PxHere.
They thought it was pretty, thought it would be outstanding in their landscape, so they brought it to America from Asia. Well, Kochia, or Burning Bush Grass is beautiful in the fall. It turns bright red. (See photo below). The problem is, IT IS HIGHLY INVASIVE, producing up to 15,000 seeds per plant per year. AND, when it dries up in late summer, it breaks off near the ground and becomes tumble weed, a roundish dry plant that is tumbled about by the wind thereby dispersing its seeds everywhere! Not only that, but it becomes highly
flammable!
The people who brought this plant to America should have asked more questions, received counsel, asked God Himself if He thought it was a good idea. Proverbs 12:15 tells us ‘The way of fools seems right to them, but the wise listen to advice.’
And, ‘Where there is no counsel, the people fall; But in the multitude of counselors there is safety.’ Proverbs 11:14. NKJV.
God could have told them that He planted it in Asia and nowhere else for a reason! They could have consulted a horticulturalist, an expert in garden cultivation and management who would have told them that the plant is considered highly invasive! It is now all over the United States!
This plant is deceptive! It is a ‘wolf in sheep’s clothing’. It looks good, but its dense foliage chokes out every other plant that is indigenous to America. It’s taking over the world!!!!!
This ‘Burning Bush’ didn’t contain the voice of God heard by Moses, but it still speaks a powerful and significant message! Be wise (don’t be a fool). Seek wise counsel before you make a decision to do something that has colossal consequences!
Think about Eve! Then the LORD God said to the woman, “What is this you have done?” The woman said, “The serpent deceived me, and I ate.’ Genesis 3:13.
Granted, she was deceived by the serpent, but couldn’t she have sought counsel before she disobeyed God and suffered as we all have, the consequences of that one decision?
Our ‘owner’s manual’, the Bible admonishes us to GET WISDOM!
‘The beginning of wisdom is this: Get wisdom. Though it cost all you have, get understanding.’ Proverbs 4:7.
‘Get wisdom, get understanding; do not forget my words or turn away from them.’
Proverbs 4:5.
Where does this wisdom come from, the Word of God, the Bible.
‘His divine power has given us everything we need for a godly life through our knowledge of him who called us by his own glory and goodness.’ 2 Peter 1:3.
It is wisdom that will help you make solid, quality decisions.
Wisdom will help you discern deception like the ‘Burning Bush Plant’!
Here is another bit of wisdom my wife found in the proverbs!
‘Do not gaze at wine when it is red, when it sparkles in the cup, when it goes down smoothly! (It is a deception). In the end it bites like a snake and poisons like a viper.’ Proverbs 23:31-32. The proverb continues in verses 33-35 with a rather humorous, sad commentary on the effects of wine. ‘Your eyes will see strange sights, and your mind will imagine confusing things. You will be like one sleeping on the high seas, lying on top of the rigging. “They hit me,” you will say, “but I’m not hurt! They beat me, but I don’t feel it! When will I wake up so I can find another drink?”

Get wisdom from this simple ‘Burning Bush’. Seek counsel so you won’t be deceived. Even Jesus warned us: He said, ‘‘Watch out that you are not deceived. For many will come in my name, claiming, ‘I am he,’ and, ‘The time is near.’ Do not follow them.’ Luke 21:8.
